Access to clean and safe water is a huge challenge in that out of its population of
45 million people, 38 million people (83% of the population) lack access to a reliable, safely managed source of water, and 7 million people (17%) lack access to improved sanitation solutions, due in part to the high population growth that stresses the water and sanitation services that exist. This is worse among rural communities; for example, in some parts of Tororo District communities spend over 10 hours just to get a 20-liter jerrican of water. MACHIKA FOUNDATION under the water and Sanitation Program will work with communities, partners and the government to end water crisis in Tororo, Uganda. The Foundation will carry out the following activities:
  • Drilling community boreholes to provide access to clean and safe water
  • Provision of water storage facilities to communities
  • Adopt water purification and sanitation mechanisms
  • Carry out community water sources protection
  • Engage communities on Sensitization and awareness-raising drive to ensure sanitation and hygiene
