Our history

Started in 2021, rooted in Tororo

From the founder

Hon. Richard Owere Machika

Founder, Machika Foundation

Hon. Richard Owere Machika is the Member of Parliament for West Budama North East Constituency in Tororo District. He started Machika Foundation as a way to turn the trust and support of the community into lasting, practical help — clean water, education, livelihoods and a healthier environment.

The Foundation is his commitment to service beyond politics: working directly with the people of Tororo to build the kind of community everyone deserves.

“My work in Parliament gives me a voice. Machika Foundation gives that voice hands — to dig, to teach, to plant, and to lift our people up.”

Mission

Machika Foundation provides a comprehensive and sustainable reprieve of poverty, ill health, lack of skills and capacity, misfortune, disability, destitution, biodiversity loss and hopelessness experienced by individuals, communities and the environment — in partnership with organisations involved in the same.

Vision

We exist to address the causes of poverty, water challenges, poor education and skills, biodiversity loss and marginalisation — and their consequences.

What guides us

Our values

Community first

Projects are designed with the people who will use them, not for them. Need assessment comes before any activity.

Sustainability

We look for reprieve that lasts — repaired water sources, skills, and income that outlive a single donation.

Partnership

We work alongside government, local structures and organisations pursuing the same outcomes in Uganda.

Accountability

As a registered charity, we report on what was funded, what was delivered, and who it reached.
