Water and Sanitation

Ending the water crisis in Tororo, one community source at a time.

Water and Sanitation

Access to clean and safe water is a huge challenge across Uganda.

Out of a population of 45 million people, 38 million (83%) lack access to a reliable, safely managed source of water, and 7 million people (17%) lack access to improved sanitation solutions — due in part to high population growth that stresses existing water and sanitation services. This is worse among rural communities; in some parts of Tororo District, families spend over 10 hours just to collect a single 20-litre jerrycan of water. Machika Foundation works with communities, partners and government to end the water crisis in Tororo.
