Economic Empowerment

Machika Foundation promotes sustainable and equitable economic growth for better living conditions in rural communities.

Over 41% of people in Uganda live in poverty, and almost half of the population is under the age of 15 — one of the youngest populations in the world, in a country hosting the largest refugee population in Africa. Community empowerment is critical if households are to achieve better livelihoods. We implement activities that address poverty and its related issues directly at the community level.

What we do

  • Capacity building and skills development projects based on need
  • Providing the necessary resources for income-generating activities
  • Financial support for communities to start or scale their projects
  • Linking communities with opportunities
