Uganda could lose its entire forest cover by 2050 if current degradation and deforestation trends are not managed.
Agriculture is the backbone of the country, and coupled with rampant charcoal burning and settlement expansion — and considering that over 90% of households use wood fuel for cooking — forest loss remains one of the biggest challenges Uganda faces. Machika Foundation works with communities on projects that tackle deforestation, improve the health of women and children, and build local capacity to plant trees and restore natural habitats.
